Haggai 2:21-23

Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah: “I am going to shake the heavens and the earth, I will overturn royal thrones and destroy the power of the Gentile kingdoms. I will overturn chariots and their riders. Horses and their riders will fall, each by his brother’s sword. On that day ” – this is the declaration of the LORD of Host – “I will take you, Zerubbable son of Shealtiel, My servant” – this is the LORD’S declaration -“and make you like My signet ring, for I have chosen you.” This is the declaration of the LORDS of Host. Haggai 2:21:23

These are the words of the Lord through the prophet Haggai. They were a message of hope and encouragement of what God was preparing to do. God was clear and concise about what he had the power to do and what would come to pass. Although this prophesy was directly for Zerubbabel, the governor, the truths of God’s word applies for us today. This is why the Lord left us his word. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, “All scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”

So how does this apply to me and you? What words of encouragement or words of hope can I give to you through the words of Haggai? How might correction come today?

Right now we are in a state of chaos and division in our country. We have feuding in the leadership that runs our country. Governors, Mayors, Senators, Representatives, and the President are all trying to assert their authority and power. They all rule from a position they hold. We find ourselves during an election season and everyone is concerned with where this country will end and who will be running it. That’s what brings me to the words of Haggai.

God speaks through the words of Haggai and says, I am in control! I have the power! I overturn and destroy! I rule over kingdoms, countries, nations, states, and cities! I rule over governors, senators, representatives, mayors, and presidents! I can remove them and put others in power! I am in charge of the military!

Here is another word of truth in God’s word about those in authority. Romans 13:1 says, “Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.”

Isn’t that exciting? Encouraging? Does it give you peace about what is taking place in politics now? Are you now hopeful about the future? Does it stir up hope for you about what will happen on Tuesday, November 3rd, 2020? Does it alleviate some of your fears?

God still sits on THE throne. There is only one. It is only through his permissive will that all things take place. Who he allows to rule and govern is by his omniscience. God loves his children and allows things to take place for a bigger picture and a grander purpose. Let’s be encourage by the word of God through the mouth of the prophet Haggai and let’s trust our Lord.

  1. We all are put through a refining fire. We must remember that it is sin in the world that causes such chaos, but God is a God of order. He sees and allows so that none should perish and more will come to trust Him. It is not easy and that is why He gave us His Word. To hear His promises and rest in them.

  2. Thank you for always being quick to share Gods word to teach us encourage us to equip us.
What a might God we have.
