Isaiah 48:18

If only you had paid attention to My commands. Then your peace would have been like a river, and your righteousness like the waves of the sea.” Isaiah 48:10.

Doesn’t this just sound like a parent? How many times have you told your child, “If you would have just listened to what I said you wouldn’t be in this mess” or “this happened because you didn’t do what I said.”

Parents are such a blessing to have. They lead, guide and teach us how to grow and mature in a safe and protected environment. They don’t say things to ruin our fun or rain on our parade. They have wisdom and understanding that they are tying to impart to us because they know best.

Our earthly parents are a reflection of our Heavenly Father. God is a good and loving Father who wants to bless us, protect us, and help us to succeed in life. Just like our parents have rules and guidelines to follow for our own good, so does God.

Were you so busy trying to grow up and become an adult that you forgot you are still a child of God? Were you so excited about the prospects of being your own boss, making your own decisions, and running your own life that you lost sight of the reality that your life is not your own?

God is your Father and He wants the best for you. He wants you to live in peace. His desire is for you to be righteous. He has made a way for that to happen. God graciously gave us a His Word in 66 books of the Bible. “If only“…

If only we would pay attention to his commands.” Adhering to the word of God and being obedient to his instructions are the avenue to finding peace and a life of righteousness. God is giving us a formula that is guaranteed to give results. He has not been vague or ambiguous. The real problem is us!

Are you searching out His Word for instructions? Are you reading His Word to know His commands? How can you pay attention to His commands if you are not daily in the Bible? Do you want peace? Do you want to walk in righteousness?

Here is what I know! The word of God is full of “if” “then” statement. They are very basic and easy to understand statements. If you do something, then you will get the results. The problem is we want the results without the work. We want peace and righteousness without obedience. We want to ignore God’s instructions, directions, and commands and expect a good outcome.

Have you ever heard of the principle of reaping and sowing? Galatians 6:7-8 says, “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap everlasting life.” This is how we grow and develop things in our life. What we do produces the outcome.

God is telling us in Isaiah to sow obedience to His commands and we will reap peace and righteousness. We have the power and tools to change our life situation. We have a role to play in the outcome and results of our life. So are you willing?

There are an amazing amount of people, maybe even you, who have a lack of peace in their life. Stress, anxiety, and frustration describe the daily experiences of the average person, including Christians. So many people live a life of unrighteousness. It is not uncommon for people to be unhappy and discontent.

But, there is hope. There is an answer. God has done everything to set you up for success. He sent Jesus to die for your sin. He sent the Holy Spirit to live in you and help you. He gave you His Word in the form of the Bible to instruct and direct you. Now it’s up to you!

It’s time to pick up God’s word and read it. It’s time to take His commands and obey them. It’s time for you to do your part because God has already done His part. You can’t reap what you don’t sow. Start today.

  1. Galatians 6:7-8, this I do understand it is the same thing as the golden rule
that my mom used to say to me “treat others the way you want to be treated” or Do unto others as you would want others to do unto you. I believed this is also in the bible but not sure what book or gospel it is. I am trying to follow all his commands and teaching, like my Pastor said be doers of the words and not just listeners.
