Psalm 121:1 & 2

“I lift my eyes toward the mountains. Where will my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, maker of heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:1-2

The Psalmist says, “I lift my eyes toward the mountains. Where will my help come from?” The direction of the eyes moves up. Away from self and mankind. They move toward the mountains.

It is the grandeur and magnificence that reminds us there is something bigger, something greater than our problems, trials, circumstances, purpose, and even our very existence. We recognize the divine nature of God and know for certain God’s incomprehensible power and ability. The earth declares the glory of God.

The One who spoke this monstrous piece of earth into being. The One who told it where to sit. He can be my help! Who else is capable? The Psalmist declares, “My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” It is God who created all things and by Him all things exist. (Colossians 1:6) God is an ever present help in times of trouble. (Psalm 46:1)

Take courage and hope in the Lord. Find solace in knowing that you have help! Be heartened in the knowledge of who He is. Remember that He has command and dominion over the earth. Be like the Psalmist today and confidently assert that your help comes from the Lord.
