Matthew 6:25-30

“This is why I tell you: Don’t worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink: or about your body, what you will wear. Isn’t life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the sky: They don’t sow or reap or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you worth more than they? Can any of you add a single cubit to his height by worrying? And why do you worry about clothes? Learn how the wildflowers of the field grow: they don’t labor or spin thread. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in a all his splendor was adorned like one of these! If that’s how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and thrown into the furnace tomorrow, won’t He do much more for you – you of little faith?” (Matthew 6:25-30)

When we stop and look at nature we see the hand of God at work. If we but contemplate the provisions of God for the animals and the vegetation upon the earth we will recognize that God alone provides and meets the needs that sustain life.

Think for a moment about the trees, flowers, and the animals. Who waters them? Who delivers the liquid that quenches their thirst? Where does the water come from to keep them from dehydration or drying up? Who decides how often and how much?

It is the divine hand of God that orchestrates the rhythms and routines of the weather. God put into motion the hydrologic cycle. He placed the oceans, rivers, and the seas. The science behind vapor, condensation and precipitation was developed by God. The artist who formed it all made it with purpose and care.

What about all the animals who live and thrive upon the face of the earth? The birds of the air? Who is feeding them? What keeps them from being malnourished? Each creature needs a different diet. Have you ever considered that? Think about all the different vegetation and meat needed to accommodate all the animals on land and sea, and yet not one creature is without food.

Phytoplankton are microscopic plantlike organisms found in the ocean that are part of a food chain that feed fish. What do fish feed? Bears, sea gulls, squid, and even spiders, to name a few, feed off fish. Everything has a purpose and a there is a purpose for everything under the sun. (Ecc. 3:1)

God thought of it all. He even thought of you. He created you and formed you in your mother’s womb! (Psalm 139:13) God didn’t create you and then leave you alone to fend for yourself. God also knew what your needs would be and he knows what you needs are. God is your provider and he will supply all your needs. (Phil. 4:19)

In the opening verse Jesus is speaking and he says that God provides for and takes care of the birds in the air and the flowers of the field. He then says we are more valuable then them and challenges us to consider the notion that he would do even more for us. God provides for the basic needs of life for his creation but for his children he will do so much more!

Are you worrying today my friend? Do you have a need? Are you lacking anything? What provisions do you need filled? Are you wanting for your basic essentials?

God is your provider and he can do so much more than you can ask or imagine. (Ephesians 3:20) The Bible says to ask, and if our father on earth gives good things “how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!” (Matthew 6:11)

Take some time today to meditate on Matthew 6:25-30. Look at the pictures I’ve attached and study how beautiful the flower are. See the vibrant colors and details of the shape and size. That is how God has clothed them. This is what he wants to do for you. Look at the pictures of the birds and think about all that the Lord provides for them. How he cares for them and meets their needs? This is what God wants to do for you.

Next, take some time to speak to your heavenly Father and tell him what you need. Ask him to make a way and supply your needs. Make your request known to God and disclose to him what you want. Tell the Lord you know that he is your provider and you trust him to do what he says in his word.

Lastly, write in your journal what you learned from this devotional. Make sure you write down your request to the Lord so you can look back and see how God meets your need. Your confidence and faith will be increased as you look at the record of God’s provision in your life.
