I love this verse! Can I just tell you how blessed I am to have this promise in God’s word. This scripture encourages me and gives me hope for my offspring. Hope for my grandchildren. I can have an impact on their future with regards to their spiritual well being.
My grand babies are so precious to me. The word of God says it like this, “Children’s children are a crown to the aged.” Proverbs 17:6. I cherish them as a gift from God. I am so blessed to have them in my life on a regular basis. Because I am active in their life, I get to share the word of God with them often. I encourage them to be faithfully praying and seeking God. I use every opportunity I can to show them God’s love and truth as I live his word out in my own life.
You need to understand the impact you can have as a grandma. Your grandchildren want your love and attention. They want to be with you. They want to hear what you have to say. They want to know what’s important to you. You have their heart and it can be molded and shaped with the word of God when you are with them.
When our grandchildren are young they haven’t been polluted by the world. They haven’t developed their views on morals, standards, and theology. You have a clean slate to plant the seeds of God’s word and his love for them.
You have the chance to lead their heart to the things of God. They are so receptive. They are like sponges. Recently I challenged my 2 granddaughters to learn all the books of the Bible. One is 6 and the other is 8. I believe they both have them memorized up to Ezekiel. That’s amazing! Can you do that? Start with Genesis and see how far you can go. I’ve found a way to get the girls to pick up their Bible and familiarize themselves with it. I want the Bible to be a part of their everyday life.
Before either one of them could read, I promised them a Bible of their own as soon as they were able to read. My gift to them for accomplishing that feat was God’s word. If they were going to learn to read I wanted them to understand the most important book to read was the Bible. They were excited. I created a desire and excitement for God’s word.
As a grandma I hope for the best for my grandchildren. I want them to know Jesus and follow him from a young age. I want them to understand that being a Christian can impact their future for the better. I want them to learn to rely on the Holy Spirit for direction in their live. The most important thing I can leave them when I leave this earth is the knowledge of who Jesus Christ is and how they can have a relationship with God. You and I have the power to influence our grandchildren for eternity.
One of the most precious examples of a grandmothers impact on her grandchildren spiritual life is found in 2 Timothy 1:5. “Clearly recalling your sincere faith that first lived in your grandmother Lois.” Timothy was an awesome man of God. He went about preaching and teaching with apostle Paul. Because of his work with the early leaders in Christianity the Gospel of Jesus Christ is spread all over the world. It started with his grandmother Lois’s faith! Paul attributed the faith he saw in Timothy as a reflection of what his grandma had. Praise God for grandmas! Where would Timothy be without the influence of his grandma? How would that have impacted the spread of the Gospel or the people Timothy encountered?
Grandma Lois made a difference. Sharing her faith with her grandson made an impact in his life and the life of others for eternity.
Dear grandma, If you are reading this, don’t underestimate the impact you have on the spiritual life of your grandchildren. Take advantage of the opportunities you have to plant seeds of God’s word as they watch you walk out you faith right in front of them. And don’t forget God’s promise…

I know this to be true of you, Rachelle. I have one of your grandchildren in my Jr Church class. She sings and dances with a free Spirit when we worship and she can answer questions or correct others in a Godly way because of her knowledge of God’s Word. She is a Joy.
Thank you Rachelle for that inspirational word. I’m a single grandmother raising my 8yr old grandson. He is a spunky little boy, sometimes I call him a Mexican jumping bean. Lol. He is my little life. God has blessed me so much with him. We, together have come together on a daily basis to read a Psalms, Poverb, and the beginning of the new testament. It can be a challenge especially during these trying times but I try to do the best I can. God’s word is alive and well and that’s what makes the difference. I still hold this scripture in my heart…Train up a child in the way he shall go and he will not depart from it… Proverbs 22:6.
